Thriving in the workplace
Unleashing the Power of Choice and Perspective
Feeling like your job is more miserable than a root canal? It's like standing at a crossroads with only two options: "Endure the misery" or "Exit a job from hell”. I had those kinds of jobs and remember that feeling. Through my coach training and experience, I discovered a repertoire of cool techniques to craft a more joyful reality within the workplace or beyond.
The prospect of jumping ship can be a scary thought, particularly if you've got a comfy spot on the corporate ladder, have a solid paycheck, and the level of responsibility you always wanted. Or, maybe you're on the promotion waitlist, questioning the universe about the delay, or drowning in so much work that your family thinks you've ghosted them.
But who’s to say the grass is greener on the other side? And the timing might not be right for a grand exit.
There are three nifty options to navigate the daily routine and create a more engaging and pleasant experience.
First off, it's time for some introspection. We're all sprinting from one goalpost to another, juggling personal stuff like pros. But when was the last time you gave your own thoughts a moment in the spotlight? What's truly bothering you? It's like detective work, only cooler.
Remember, work is all about people. Processes, systems, coffee machine dramas – all crafted by humans. So, let's figure out who or what is giving your mojo a beating.
Now, here's the key – choice. The world may throw curveballs, but you decide how to swing.
Are there situations you can choose not to get upset about because in the big scheme they are not important? Like that annoying colleague who's fashionably late every time. Can you figure out why it’s bothering you so much and truly let go? Don’t sweat the small stuff - not just on the surface but deep inside!
Let's talk about that manager who can’t seem to stop interrupting you. It’s annoying, sure, but can you finagle some cool ways to negotiate with them? Or, maybe meet them halfway? You never know, it could be the catalyst for magical change.
And then, the third option —something I wished I had more awareness around years ago. Can you view the situation from a different perspective? Maybe your interrupting manager is just trying to help in their owns awkward way. If so, would your approach to resolve the situation be different? This one's all about you – your experience, your worldview. Can you break through old assumptions and beliefs or dispel any negative interpretations? Maybe, just maybe, you're making things harder than algebra in ancient Greek.
And if, after all this soul-searching, none of these magic tricks make your workdays sparkle, there's always the exit door. But armed with your new awareness, you're better equipped to find something that truly lights your fire.
So hang in there! With a bit of introspection and a sprinkle of perspective, you’ll be turning those workdays from drab to fab in no time.
